Jamming Tees

About

About this embroidery digitizing service

Jamming Tees is a request point for print shops, embroidery shops and apparel decorators who want to outsource embroidery digitizing and artwork. Requests go to a service partner that does this work.

What this site is

This site explains how outsourced embroidery digitizing and vector artwork work, and gives decorators a simple way to ask for a quote. It doesn't sell garments or blanks, and it doesn't run embroidery machines for you. When you send the form, your request goes to a service partner that provides digitizing and artwork services, and the partner replies to you directly about files, timing and price.

Who outsources digitizing and artwork

  • Embroidery shops whose in-house digitizer is overloaded, or that don't have one
  • Screen printers who need vector redraws and separations prepared
  • Promotional products and uniform companies sending out logo files
  • Small decorators who want a second format for a new machine

How digitizing orders usually work

  1. Request. You describe the designs, sizes, garments and formats, and roughly how many a month.
  2. Quote and onboarding. The partner explains pricing, how files are sent and returned, and what proof you'll get.
  3. Test design. Many shops start with one or two designs and sew them on real garments before sending more.
  4. Regular orders. Artwork goes in, files and proofs come back, and edits are requested with sew-out photos.

What to check before you order digitizing

  • Which machine formats they deliver, and whether working files are included (the file formats guide explains the difference)
  • What the proof sheet shows
  • How edits are handled and charged
  • How quickly files usually come back for the sizes you order, in writing
  • How artwork files are stored and who can see them
  • Their policy on artwork that may infringe someone else's rights

Artwork rights and permissions

You are responsible for having the right to reproduce any artwork you send. That means your own designs, your customer's own logo with their authorization, or artwork licensed for this use. Brand logos, sports marks, characters and similar designs belong to their owners, and decorating them without permission can infringe trademark or copyright. If you're unsure, get written confirmation from the customer before you order a file.

What digitizing can't fix

A well-built file still needs the right stabilizer, needle, thread tension and hooping. Some designs, such as photographs or very fine detail at small sizes, can't be reproduced faithfully in thread at all. A good digitizer will say so and suggest a simpler version. Small lettering is the usual sticking point, covered on the left chest logo digitizing page.
